MP Hill rails at light sentences for youths in Baldwin case
In Parliament Jay Hill voiced disgust over six month to one year sentences given by Judge Keith Bracken for three youths charged with manslaughter in the April 19 1995 beating death of James Baldwin age 58. He argued the justice system fails deterrence and taxpayers, noting two youths face adult court appeals and three remain to be tried. Dawson Creek Mayor Bill Kusk joined the critique calling the punishments outrageous and insufficient. The Crown had sought sentences just under three years.

Reform leader calls for YOA changes after Baldwin case
Peace River South MLA Jack Weisgerber argues the court handling of the six youths charged in James Baldwin's death shows the need to revise the Young Offenders Act. He opposes publication bans, says the public should access evidence, and urges automatic adult court for violent youth crimes to ensure informed opinions.
