Natives lose round one in court over Amoco land dispute
Saulteau First Nations and Dunneza people faced a Vancouver courtroom setback three months after a peaceful standoff against Amoco Canada over Twin Sisters mountains. A judicial review was sought after the province issued a July 23 1998 well licence amid ongoing negotiations. The case centers on sacred territory near Mile 18 Johnson Road in the Dawson Creek Forest District. Amoco says cooperation agreements with other First Nations exist and an appeal is expected by Saulteau.
