Anchorage uses winter lighting to draw tourists and lift moods
Anchorage, the USA's northernmost large city, launched a 1982 light-scaping program turning the winter landscape into a sparkling display. It boosted tourism, cut crime, and inspired northern B.C. towns to adopt similar efforts. Steven Shropshire notes 60 percent of businesses and 50 percent of homes participate. A seminar on February 19, 1999, will discuss plans for other communities.
