Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day Parade Schedule

Remembrance Day ceremonies begin at 9 50 a m with a parade forming at Hotel Chetwynd. At 10 a m the parade proceeds to the Legion Cenotaph under the direction of Comrade R Cur Al. At 10 05 a m wreaths are laid in order for eight groups: Royal Canadian Legion the Ladies Auxiliary to Legion the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chetwynd Fraternal the BP C Elis G Chetwynd Firemen Ladies of the Royal Purple and the Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce.

Fatal forklift accident claims Earl Edinger in October

A fatal accident at C.F.I. killed Earl Edinger, 28, when a forklift ran him over. The RCMP and WC B completed their investigation and an inquest is expected. Edinger leaves a wife and two children in Fort St. John and his parents in Chetwynd.

Chetwynd Cables Scramble Threaten Local TV Service

The Chetwynd Communication Society learned that CanCom will permanently scramble signals at midnight November 2 unless a licence is granted by the CRTC. CanCom will not provide an unscrambler until a licence is issued, blocked by existing operator 5440 Cable whose renewal comes December 14. Meanwhile a November 20 referendum asks surrounding residents to approve a small tax increase for TV service in exchange for improved reception.

Chetwynd talks on CanCom rival to 5440 Cable services

Rural Directors and Peace River district officials met in Chetwynd to discuss Television Services to Rural Areas and objections to 5440 Cable licence renewal and rate hike. They back CanCom broadcasting to town and nearby areas, coordinating interventions with the regional district and citing potential national precedent.

Five coal dust monitoring sites chosen along rail route

The Northeast Coal Technical committee selects five locations to monitor dustfall and airborne particulates from Tumbler Ridge to Prince Rupert. Sites are Tumbler Ridge Prince George Smithers Terrace and Prince Rupert with preoperational monitoring to run by year end ahead of coal train startup in December 1983.
