Northern Lights plans for Chetwynd college shop and classrooms
Northern Lights College receives final grant installment to build a multipurpose shop and two classrooms in Chetwynd. Construction begins May 28 between the existing campus and BC Rail tracks, housing welding and skills training plus safety courses. Graduation notes from Chetwynd include 22 graduates in Dawson Creek May 16 with two Adult Basic Education honors, multiple merit and staff scholarships, and strong office administration results.

Oberle attends Conservative dinner in Chetwynd May 23
Frank Oberle MP for Prince George Peace River spoke at a Conservative dinner in Chetwynd attended by about 175 people organized by Tom Lazenby and hosted by Ian Campbell. He urged focus on science and tech, cited a 12 billion Hi Tech deficit needing cleanup and predicted 115 billion to be spent on space age projects over 15 years. He noted 580,000 new Canadian jobs since Conservatives won, discussed free trade talks and U.S. lumber tariffs, and called for a U.S. Reagan actions response. Premier Bennett announced retirement this summer prompting a Social Credit leadership convention amid Expo 86 mood. The legislature composition and next elections are noted.

The National Museums of Canada will bring the Museumobile to Chetwynd at the Recreation Centre on May 29 30 and 31. The Canada West exhibit covers Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta tracing geological social economic and cultural development. Produced with provincial co operation to reach communities lacking major museums. The Canada West launch followed Canada North in January 1973 and preceded Atlantic Canada in Victoria in June 1976.
