People responsible for most forest fires
Dozens of grassland and timber fires have broken out in the Chetwynd Dawson Creek and Fort St John Districts over the last two weeks. Four overhead fire teams from across the province assist, with at least 45 fires burning over 2100 hectares amid high winds and dry conditions. All fires traced to human carelessness, primarily field, windrow, and brush burns. The largest blaze, the WAR fire in Lone Prairie, stemmed from an unsupervised range burn, and firefighting costs exceed 400000 in three weeks, promising a hefty bill for offenders.
