District cuts taxes in 1999 budget for Chetwynd

The District of Chetwynd released its 1999 budget showing a 14.45 percent cut in municipal residential property taxes and a 17.07 percent reduction for business taxes. Expenditures were trimmed by 332000, while over 1.5 million remains allocated for capital spending. Mayor Charlie Lasser touted the measures as the first step in lowering taxes and announced a town hall on June 17 at Cottonwood Hall. The report also notes the Moberly Lake Lodge project termination led by Wayne Christensen due to water quality concerns, with no prospect of proceeding despite cleanup efforts.

Northern BC oil and gas rights fetch 12.5 million

Energy and Mines Minister Dan Miller reports April oil and gas rights sales in northeastern British Columbia totalled 12.5 million dollars. The auction covered 67 016 hectares with 35 drilling licences 28 leases and one permit. Antelope Land Services bid 1310 per hectare on a Ring gas field parcel. Marathon Canada led a 2287 hectare Graham gas field licence at 612 per hectare for 1 400 422 dollars. Twenty leases were sold with more details pending.

High bids set for BC oil and gas rights sale near Dawson Creek

Western Land Services topped bids at 2 157 per hectare for a 295 hectare parcel south of Dawson Creek, Sekani Resources took second with 1 707 per hectare on an adjacent 295 hectare site. Total of top two bids 636 244 and 503 435 dollars. May 26 next sale features 18 drilling licences and 21 leases.
