Council votes to challenge Statistics Canada census showing Chetwynd’s population rose from 2774 in 1986 to 2843 in 1991. Mayor Lasser doubts growth and calls for investigation, insisting population is over 3000. Council agrees to request inquiry and write the federal agency.
Local clubs organizations and schools joined together to fill trash bags during Pitch-In week in late April. Schools reportedly averaged around 300 bags each with a conservative total near 2000 bags. Community leaders praised the effort and urged ongoing environmental action.
