Westcoast argues looping gas line boosts supply and exports
Westcoast Transmission says looping the remaining 388 kilometres of its Chetwynd to Huntingdon pipeline could save 6.7 billion cubic feet of gas per year and meet winter shortfalls, enabling exports rising from 11 million to 18.5 million dollars within nine years. Seven Injured In Two-Vehicle Collision East Of Chetwynd
Seven people hospitalized after a Sunday afternoon crash on Wali Hill east of Chetwynd. Three were transported to Dawson Creek Hospital by Monday morning. Driver Daryl Hurd of Dawson Creek led one vehicle.

Timothy McLaren remanded to Dawson Creek for guilty pleas on two breaking and entering counts and one possession of stolen property count, sentenced to one year. A break in theft at James Courtorielle’s home on Wales Crescent prompted police charge of a juvenile. Damages to Roller Bros Construction tractor near Hasler estimated at 3500 dollars. Richard Parker reported a stolen bicycle from Chetwynd Trailer Court. Rodeo Subdivision saw unlicensed vehicle use with fines up to 250 dollars for highway operation. Three youths escaped from Arras Holding Centre, stole a pickup, then were recaptured. Recurring damage complaints to Chetwynd Recreation Centre noted. The Bat Mobile checked 100 vehicles resulting in two impaired driving charges.

Child Drowns After Creek Ice Breaks
A four to five year old girl, Samantha Jean Johnston, daughter of Mark and Karen Johnston, disappeared from her home on 53rd Street in Chetwynd at about 5 30 PM Friday April 28. After a five hour search by RCMP Civil Defence the local fire department and volunteers her body was found later that evening in Windrem Creek about a block from home. Investigations indicate she fell through the ice.
