Figure skaters gathered from Grande Prairie Fort St John Chetwynd Mackenzie and Dawson Creek for the Totem Invitational. Judges sought higher class skating as contestants battled for each point in two dozen categories with Little Giant Skate Club leading in several divisions. Local skaters earned positions from 3rd to 6th in various junior and senior events while Northern Lights Fort St John won the Novice Precision.

Chetwynd held an election to fill two seats created as the status changed from Village to District Municipality. Bob Shirley won a two year term with 302 votes and Willard Dunn took one year with 383 ballots. Voter turnout was 46.6 percent with 533 ballots cast from 1148 eligible voters.

Economic recovery forum to be held in Chetwynd
Team B.C. will hold a Recovery Forum in Chetwynd on March 30 at 7 30 p.m. in the Recreation Centre. Kim Calloway and Maggie Chew, visiting March 22, will outline methods to kickstart revenue projects and share ideas on saving money, personal finance, shelter, transportation, and related economic issues. They will present examples from Salmon Arm and discuss government funding programs like NEED and other private donations. Golf Club Five Year Plan Proposed by Alderman Braaten
At the March 22 District Council meeting Alderman Braaten presented a five year plan for a Chetwynd and District Golf and Country Club. The proposal designates 80 acres between town centre and the airport with 60 acres for a golf course driving range and clubhouse and parking. The balance would be kept for baseball football and soccer. A preliminary budget of 17000 dollars covers driving range and putting green work. The plan details phases from 1985 to 1987 including clearing bush draining ground installing sprinklers excavating sand traps seeding and clubhouse construction with the 1987 season starting in May. Braaten said capital expenditure requests for the parks would be limited. Continued on page A10.
