Surgeons remain male dominated as women enter medical schools
Canada sees a gender shift with women constituting most first year medical students and rising in family medicine psychiatry and obstetrics gynecology while surgery remains male dominated. Only about 10 percent of surgeons are women in neurosurgery cardiac and orthopedic fields though female residents lead in obstetrics gynecology family and pediatrics.
