District dispute over Civic Properties Commission roles in Chetwynd
The Peace River Regional District board appointed Nicholson to the Civic Properties Commission on December 15 1995 with three Chetwynd nominees including Mayor Shirley and Councillor Cunningham. The District of Chetwynd says Nicholson was removed, while the PRRD owns and contracts the Recreation Centre and considers itself the only authority to appoint or remove members for just cause. A January 9 1996 meeting debated funding for major capital needs to keep the 25 year old arena running, as Shirley and Cunningham walked out. The dispute highlights cooperation vs control between Chetwynd and rural area officials.
