Canfor logs fire killed timber, records set in province
The 2,500th truck of logs from the Raw Fire arrived at Canfor on March 13. Woods Foreman Brian Nowicke said nearly all usable fire killed timber will be in the yard by month’s end, with five contractors logging 18 to 20 percent of Canfor’s season volume. Road costs reached about $400,000, and milling will take about two months. The fire killed wood hikes milling costs and reduces pulp revenue, while this is the only season harvesting is viable due to winter drying.

The 6th annual Totem Invitational hosted by Chetwynd Little Giant Club runs March 22 and 23 co hosted by Fort St. John and Dawson Creek clubs. 167 skaters from 11 clubs across Peace Country and Northern Alberta compete in 44 events including free skate, solos, pairs, dance, precision groups, and interpretive skating. Mayor Lasser will open at 10 30 Saturday with the awards at 8 15 Sunday. Admission at the door.

Chetwynd Area Resident Killed In Tractor Accident
Gerald Norris Wedge of Chetwynd died when the late model tractor he operated overturned on Nichols Road and toppled into a shallow creek about three metres. A 17 year old passenger was injured but not seriously in the incident occurring March 8.

Cold snap brings snow and flurries to Fort St. John
A cold air mass from the northwest drifts south over Fort St. John for the next two to three days.
