North Rockies avalanche data gaps slow forecasts
In November 2011 a snowmobiler died in the North Rockies near the Upper Torpy River as an avalanche struck while 30 to 40 kilometers from the vehicle. The CAC says data-sparse North Rockies hinder daily forecasts and seeks two field teams and four remote stations at startup costs around 250000 dollars with annual costs about 180000 dollars.
