Chetwynd holds public hearing on April 22, 2014 to discuss a derelict vehicle bylaw. The proposal defines derelict vehicles as any nonworking or unlicensed vehicle type and would bar storage or wreckage on property unless permitted. Limits would cap four vehicles for single family homes and three per unit for duplexes.
Tembec closes sale of its Chetwynd BC pulp mill and assets to Paper Excellence Canada Holdings for a nominal amount. About 80 employees affected. mill had been shut since September 2012 and can produce 240000 tons of BCTMP hardwood pulp annually. Tembec employs 3500 people worldwide with roughly 1.6 billion in annual sales. Paper Excellence is a Richmond BC based multinational pulp and paper producer.
Chetwynd RCMP and Fort St. John Police Dog Unit executed a dual search on March 7, 2014 at two Chetwynd residences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Seized were just under three grams of crack cocaine prescription medications cash and a .22 rifle with ammunition. An adult male at the scene was arrested on possession for the purpose of trafficking and later released. Evidence will be submitted to the Crown for charge approval.
Com. Laura Weisgerber chair of the Water and Sewer task group told council that after a meeting the group decided on slight modifications to the original design of the about five million dollar upgrade project for the town sewage lagoon water treatment facility. The new design will be ready by the end of March.
