Westgate's I G A opens new addition with ribbon cutting
The Ra Store officially opened Westgate's I G A with a brief ceremony on March 4. Mayor Pfanner, Richard Daley of Horne Pitfield Foods Ltd, Dean Westgate, and Bryan Westgate attended along with staff and customers. Daley called the store among the best in western Canada and construction leaders were thanked. The 6000 square foot expansion began last October and adds a large area to the store.

TV Committee Seeks Better Signal Across Channels
The local TV Committee aims to improve signal quality on Channels 12 and 2 with a field strength meter to map the benefitting area. Details for a benefitting area referendum are in process and applications are prepared for a one third grant from the Provincial Government to fund a permanent transmitting system. The current unit is loaned from Fort St John and BCTV may move to Channel 3 to widen viewing range.

Northern Development Council releases report on planning act and power
The Northern Development Council held a two day meeting on February 6 and 7 and released a report. A position paper on the proposed Planning Act will be prepared by a council sub committee presenting the views of six member Northern Regional Districts to Minister Bill Vander Zalm. The council urged adequate north to south power transmission to support industrial development and said a northern location should not hinder growth. A road and rail transport seminar will occur during the North Central Municipal Association Conference in May at Prince Rupert. Discussions planned include a federal provincial regional cost sharing package and future talks set for April. The next meeting is in early April in Fort St. John or Dawson Creek with focus on Northern Pipelines and North East Coal Developments.

Dawson Creek Bus System To Start In April
Norline Coaches of Fort St. John signed an Annual Operating Agreement with the City to launch a city bus system starting April 1. Two Orion buses will run hourly on four routes from 7:15 a.m. to 7:10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with Friday late service to 10:10 p.m. and Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 7:10 p.m. Fares will be 20 cents, with reductions for seniors and students.

Hydro tax payments total for Chetywnd in 1986 revealed
Hydro paid 36055 in school taxes and municipal grants to the Village of Chetywnd in 1986, up from 32451 in 1979.
