The Provincial Government introduces a Youth Employment Programme to stimulate summer work for students and youths aged 15 to 24. Funding assistance of 1.30 to 2.00 per hour is available to farms and businesses for each youth hired, with 17 week or 9 week terms starting May 2 or June 27. Applications close March 25, and the final hiring decision rests with the employer. Contact Field Office Dawson Creek or Chetwynd for forms and regulations.
Sponsored by the Teacher's Association the February 28 1977 event drew Chetwynd and area teachers to Don Titus and Chetwynd Elementary Secondary for workshops in Science Music Social Studies and First Aid. Chairwoman Mrs Joan Maurer led planning with sessions by Denny Kemprud and Rick Thorne focusing on Social Studies problems and music activities.
The Village Council appoints a Chetwynd Community Planning Committee to study future development. Members will provide local input to consultants Stanley Associates Engineering Ltd as they guide the planning process in Chetwynd over the next two years.
The B C Forest Service announced new grazing permit rules to help ranchers plan for up to ten years and improve Crown land management. Permits will require examinations of proper practices, with replacements negotiated before expiry. Fees per animal vary by species and yearly cattle prices.
A Sunday ceremony at the Moberly Lake Youth Centre marked the Beavers becoming Wolf Cubs led by White Beaver. Akela Mr H Wilson presented link badges to Roy Tennan Michael Coss and Billy Giesbrecht as they swim up from Beavers to Cubs with sponsor parents noting the occasion.
The provincial government removed the $1.50 export tax on wood chips and formed a Special Task Force to boost the chip export program. Forests Minister Tom Waterland and Economic Development Minister Don Phillips announced the move, driven by Pearse Royal Commission recommendations. The ministries will coordinate to manage surplus chips and spur pulping capacity in British Columbia.
The Community Conference action plan helps communities prevent drug abuse by involving home and school and highlighting our shared role.
