Chetwynd Chapter Earns Outstanding Award For Banquet Net

The Chetwynd Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation chapter, barely a year old, earned the Outstanding Chapter Award for High Banquet Net to Total Ratio at the Oregon banquet. The group raised 25000 last year and aims higher this year, with chair Peter Christie praising the community. The foundation, founded in Montana in 1984, now counts 46 Canadian chapters and funds habitat, education, research, and hunting heritage across North America. In the Peace Region it supported elk habitat studies near Dawson Creek and relocation of 50 elk from Groundbirch to Ingenika, plus prescribed fire along the Kechika River. Christie notes that over 90 percent of funds go directly to projects. The Chetwynd banquet is set for March 14 at the Elks Hall with silent and live auctions and about half the tickets sold, featuring some 100 items and a Leako 338 rifle on display at Lonestar Sporting Goods.
