Fire Chief Leo Sabulsky announces a first time high level Canada Day fireworks display at Rotary Park starting 10 45 p m Saturday night. Rain will cancel and the 200 600 foot reach of the aerials will be visible across the valley. An auction at 1 p m at the radio TV station offers 26 bikes cupboards bookcases air compressor and two new windows. Children’s activities at the Rec Centre include the Little Dude Express and the inflated Dragon Palace.

Oil and Gas Rights Sale Brings 15.4 Million to B C Coffers
The June sale of oil and gas rights in northeastern British Columbia generated 15.4 million for the provincial government. It offered 37 drilling licences and 22 leases across 66,203 hectares, with 35 leases and 20 licences sold. Top bids included Scott Land & Lease Ltd and Startech Energy Inc., among others. A July 19 sale will present 79 parcels totaling 68,679 hectares. Energy Minister Dan Miller expects continued strong land sales and ongoing revenue from the northeast.

Wabi Bridge Replacement Starts July In Kamloops
Cortez Construction Ltd of Kamloops wins the over 1.3 million dollar contract to replace the 1968 Wabi Bridge. Construction begins in early July with a detour and temporary crossing, then demolition of the old bridge. The new design adds 3.6 metre lanes and two metre shoulders, avoids piers in Centurion Creek, and moves the north pedestrian crossing for the detour. The Ministry of Transportation and Highways oversees the project.

New OSB Mill Planned for Fort St. John By Slocan and LP
Slocan Forest Products Ltd and Louisiana-Pacific Corp will build a $200 million oriented strandboard mill in the Fort St. John area. The project promises 500 plus jobs, 650 person-years of construction, and over $10 million in spin off benefits. Construction aims for completion by end of 2001 pending environmental review.
