Government nurses strike in British Columbia

About 2500 government nurses in British Columbia walked off the job at 9 o'clock on June 21. The BC Nurses Union and the Union of Psychiatric Nurses say they have no contract since December, with escalating job action to pressure the employer to return to bargaining. They seek higher wages and better benefits, noting community nurses earn up to $800 less per month than general duty hospital nurses, and accusing the system of second-class treatment.
