Return of Champions marks cutting edge Chetwynd event
The eighth annual International Chainsaw Carving Championship in Chetwynd wrapped Sunday with workers clearing tents and moving sculptures to the Visitor's Centre. Mayor Merlin Nichols praised the four days while organizer Maryann French thanked volunteers, participants, and spectators for weathering rain and wind. Carvers from Japan, the USA, Slovakia, and the UK drew praise from judges including Steve Blanchard of Outdoor Life Network. The event featured Western Red Cedar from Campbell River and a $1,500 purse from Minister Ida Chong, with plans already underway for next year’s theme Return of the Champions.
