Canadian Forest Products awards logging contractors for safety and quality
Chetwynd Division honors Youngs Mills 1980 Ltd Quietwood Logging and Ja Kor Holdings for safety and quality. Youngs Mills won the A-Division safety award for over 70 000 m3 with 75 000 m3 logged since last summer and no incidents. Quietwood won the B-Division safety award with 52 000 m3 and one minor medical aid case. Jaker Holdings won the quality award for the third straight year with Jim Grant's crew delivering the highest quality loads.

Local student returns from national drug abuse forum
A Chetwynd grade 10 student Stephanie Lazeby joins 150 youths and youth workers from 10 provinces at Halifax May 25 to 28 1989 for the Youth Leadership Forum Helping Me Helping You. Ministers Beatty and Charest spoke on committing to a drug free society and students planned a Community Action Plan. Health and Welfare Canada organized the event with attendees from British Columbia including Michael Hass Victoria Stephanie Lazenby Chetwynd and others from Surrey Revelstoke Gibsons Kamloops Prince George Nanaimo Port Hardy and more.

Peace Foothills 1990 Winter Games cancel events
Delegation from Ringette and Darts along with other sports faced cancellations at the Peace Foothills 1990 Northern BC Winter Games after a May 31 1989 committee meeting found the three communities could not host all events. Chetwynd Hudson's Hope and Tumbler Ridge would still host hundreds of participants. Committee meetings on June 7 8 attempted to resolve the issue.

Chetwynd council to hear school district budget night
At the June 6 meeting the District of Chetwynd Council received a notice from B C Browns chairing the Board of School Trustees about an informational night on June 15 1989 at 7 30 pm in the Dr H J O Brien Educational Centre Teacher Centre. The event will cover the 1989/90 budget with discussions on budget process budgets by function initiatives for plant and buildings and grounds tax rate comparisons and the proposal to eliminate Wrestling in favor of Crib to allow Ringette in the Games. The proposal will be raised at the Winter Games Committee on June 19. The Peace Foothills Committee prioritizes quality over quantity for the 1990s games.
