Local program trains Chetwynd residents for forest jobs

The Chetwynd Resource Area Forestry Transition project CRAFT aims to close the local skills gap in silviculture and reforestation. Backed by 12 organizations and a 640 000 grant plus 1 million locally, CRAFT will run classroom and field training modeled on the College of New Caledonia program. Founding directors expect 45 new forestry jobs for residents in two years and anticipate local workers being hired by silviculture contractors. The first class starts this fall.
