Fire weather and new blazes prompt heightened vigilance

A ridge off the coast and lingering interior troughs forecast cloudy skies with sunny breaks and scattered showers all week. Six new fires emerged weekend across Robson Valley and Prince George districts, including a 1.5 hectare blaze near Goat River and spot fires near Bell Mountain Chetwynd and southeast of Fort Nelson, all lightning caused and monitored by the B C Forest Service. Campers urged to extinguish fires fully as ground smoulder can reignite despite morning dampness.
