LNG export licenses filed by BG Group and PNLG in BC race for contracts

UK based BG Group and Pacific NorthWest LNG led by Petronas have applied to the National Energy Board for LNG export licenses. NEB has already issued licenses to Douglas Channel Energy, Kitimat LNG, and LNG Canada. Art Jarvis of Energy Services BC cautions that despite optimism, first shipments and market readiness are years away. BG’s plan routes via Spectra Energy’s Westcoast pipeline, paralleling TransCanada proposals, as rival projects seek to secure contracts and market access in a competitive race to fill LNG commitments.
