Poor cattle prices hit Peace Country sale day hard
At Peace Country Livestock Auction in Chetwynd Alberta buyers faced sharp price drops after the latest mad cow case. Ranchers like Mike Kosick Alec Day and Dennis Tollefson warned of long term harm to the cattle sector with prices down as much as 40 per cent since November and discussions of cutting sales and exiting the business. Some calves sold cheaply as feed costs forced sales despite pessimism about a rebound in export markets.
