Forests Minister outlines 1991 92 reforestation plan
Forests Minister Claude Richmond says 1991 and 1992 reforestation will stay at 100 percent though fewer seedlings are needed. The forecast is 260 million seedlings for 1991 due to higher survival rates. He notes seedling survival has reached 84 percent and that silviculture prescriptions are required before any tree cutting. He also seeks a $700 million Forest Resource Development Agreement with Ottawa to eliminate the reforestation backlog by 2000.
