Ralph Larsen Named Citizen of the Year at Chetwynd event
Ralph Larsen, a Peace River veteran and longtime resident since 1955, was named Chetwynd’s Citizen of the Year at the Chamber of Commerce Civic night. He moved from Dawson Creek in 1974, worked for School District No. 59, and remains active as a Legion member, building committee chair, director of Senior Citizens Housing, and a prolific community volunteer supervising parolees and assisting local businesses.

Gift shop moves as Chetwynd hospital renovates
The Chetwynd and District Hospital undertook major renovations funded by the Hospital Auxiliary. The board donated 5000 for basic updates and nearly 2000 for moving and renovating the hospital gift shop run by Auxiliary volunteers. The shop operates about six to seven hours weekly.

Small chemical spill reported at Sukunka Road junction
A spill of about two gallons of a sulphur solvent solution occurred near the Sukunka Road and Gwillim Road junction. B P Exploration RCMP and Forestry investigated. The solvent, though strongly scented, is not deemed dangerous and responsibility remains unknown. The Soda firm of Fort St John cleaned the area using solvent and steam. The hospital board room now houses a large storage area with ten years of medical records to be microfilmed, while a new teaching and community-use space houses a video machine and plans for an audio machine.
