Worries about school closures dominate District 59 meeting
School District 59 officials touring the region spoke in Chetwynd about plummeting enrolment. Between 1999 and 2008 Chetwynd Secondary declined 27 percent, Don Titus Elementary 18 percent, Little Prairie Elementary 10 percent, and Moberly Lake Elementary 35 percent. With 2,340 empty heated spaces, the district faces budget pressure and possible closures, though officials insist action will be decided publicly across three upcoming meetings.
