First Annual Meeting of Chetwynd Communications Society
The Chetwynd Communications Society held its first annual meeting with eight attendees and a reporter from the Echo. Committee Chair Bert McGraw reported on past activities and noted the Department of Communications softened its stance on satellites after a November meeting in Fort St. John. If suitable Canadian programming becomes available by satellite, the group would switch, with negotiations anticipated to allow an exchange of satellite programming with the United States. Channel A1 from Oakland was off air due to the transmitter’s license lapse, leaving CJDC TV Dawson Creek, two American channels, and a 24 hour movie channel as options. Arden Smith presented a financial report showing donations and interest totaling $65,786.30, with expenses of $60,474.74. The plan included obtaining own equipment after an engineering report, while the ongoing channel 10 interference with CJDC prompted earlier shutdowns and partial antenna relocation success. A potential $20,000 cost to switch from VHF to UHF was noted.
