Chetwynd weighs community forest pilot and value-added sector

Pembina toll hearing set for pipeline comeback
Pembina Pipeline faces a public hearing by the British Columbia Utilities Commission on February 13 in Vancouver to set toll rates for restoring the line to modern standards. President Bob Michaleski notes an estimated 20 to 25 million dollars in capital may be needed over the next two to three years. The August rupture spilled about one million litres into Pine River, with cleanup costs around 18 million dollars. the line now runs at up to 75 percent capacity between Taylor and Prince George after a hydrostatic test.

About 40 residents attended Pembina's meeting on January 10 at the Seniors Hall. Environmental assessment data are being compiled for review by the Ministry of Environment Lands and Parks. Excavation of river soils completed December 15, 2000, with 52,900 tonnes removed to Alberta for remediation. Water sampling reduced to five downstream and one upstream. monthly testing continues through spring thaw.
