Lasser eyes 1997 start for ethanol plant and Willow Creek mine

Chetwynd Mayor Charlie Lasser says 1997 could bring major industrial growth with two projects. An ethanol plant using forest waste aims to enter engineering phase, while Pine Valley Coal pursues a Willow Creek coal mine with a feasibility study due by February and potential work starting by late summer.

Chetwynd seeks federal help for airport upgrades

Chetwynd plans to obtain two grants from the BC Transportation Financing Authority to upgrade the airport. Last year the district received 444000 dollars for runway resurfacing, completed this summer. The application this time targets lighting improvements as current hazard beacons use obsolete bulbs with long lead times.
