Forest Industry Luncheon Addresses Export Tax Impact
Jerry Deer and Brian Gelfillan of the Council of Forest Industries of B C addressed a luncheon with the District Council EDC and Chamber of Commerce. They argued 15 percent export tax harms B C lumber more than other regions while pulp and paper offsets exist elsewhere. Provinces prefer a stumpage tax, but lumber producers oppose it, seeking federal release of funds to reinvest in forestry and create jobs, with 15 million dollars owed to the forest area.
