Retiring Canfor CEO upbeat about future
Canfor Corp. outgoing president and CEO Jim Shepard voiced cautious optimism about the company’s future after tough years amid a U S housing collapse. He cited a strong fourth quarter profit of 55 million and a total 2010 profit of 161 million as evidence of an exceptional financial position under the current management. The transition to Don Kayne as CEO is noted, with Shepard stepping down in the spring after leading through the recession and paying down debt.

Finavera to keep 30 percent stake in Wildmare wind project
Finavera, a $40-million company, would retain a 30 percent stake in the Wildmare wind project under a proposed deal with GE. GE would pay $40 million for 100 percent equity plus $160 million debt. Finavera CEO Jason Bak said the move rewards their development risk as talks continue toward final agreement in about two months. Bak also noted potential GE partnerships on Finavera’s other wind farms including Tumbler Ridge Meikle and Bullmoose.
