BCAS uses STARS in northeast BC as needed official says
BC Ambulance Service will call STARS Air Ambulance when appropriate in northeast Peace region. Executive director Les Fisher notes BCAS contracts by service, not with STARS, and only on an ad hoc basis. STARS has been used once or twice this year, with Grande Prairie base noting possible use earlier. STARS offers night flight capability, but cannot reach major hospitals in Edmonton or Vancouver for specialized care, so other air carriers are often used. Fisher emphasizes patient survival depends on multiple links in the care chain and improving access to major hospitals with bed approvals.
