Animals at risk as warm winds meet winter roads
Wildlife like deer elk and moose faces danger as Chinook warmth loosens snow and predators track on hard surfaces. Keith Rande of the Dawson Creek Ministry notes rising temps and heavy hooves limit prey mobility while mice scarcity lowers predator pups this spring. Roads killed 77 animals Oct Dec 1996 with 54 deer 20 moose two coyotes and one bear. Road signs warn drivers to watch for animals for safety.
