Local notes cover a Saskatchewan visit by Bunne Hoffman and relatives, new residents in the old Tarr house, curlers joining Elk’s bonspiel, and trips by families including the Stirling and Piper households. Legion banquet and ski lessons noted. continued on page five.
A mother recounts her young son swallowing diesel fuel and being rushed to medical help after stopping a logging truck driven by Aston Beattie for Frankies Construction. The driver phoned ahead to summon medical aid as they headed toward Canfor scales with another man assisting.
The Editor recounts a collective effort when a family faced trouble. Hospital staff, nurses, and many helpers supported Mr and Mrs H Houseman as their son was hospitalized and began to recover. Gratitude is extended to all who assisted.
Mayor Oberle sealed a 100 year time capsule in village council chambers last Tuesday not to be opened until BC has its second centennial. It contains town photos current newspaper editions bric a brac and a bottle of rum. Built by Sig Schilling the capsule will be poured in concrete in the new Centennial ice arena and marked with a bronze plaque directing opening at the province’s second centennial.
Marian Parkers Smoke Signals reports Irene Bronson of Clinton BC injured in a serious car crash with fiance, while his condition remains critical. A death notice for Mrs Mary Serno from Haarlem is included, plus local updates on Mrs Kenneth Napoleon and horse road hazards near Moberly Lake.
In the past week at Chetwynd District Hospital several residents were convalescing including Kathleen Sawchuck Louis Houseman Alicia Clark Sharon Britney Donna Calliou Martha Napoleon Jean Breitkreitz Heather Sand Brian Kezer Helen Anderson Ted Farnsworth and Hazel Capot among others from Chetwynd Dawson Creek Moberly Lake Hudson Hope and surrounding areas.
