Louisiana-Pacific to shut Chetwynd mill for four weeks

Patch Bonkemeyer says the Louisiana-Pacific mill in Chetwynd will suspend operations for four weeks due to an economic downturn in Asia with Korean and Indonesian markets to blame. The shutdown, affecting 208 employees, will be used for maintenance and to build log inventories while capital projects continue. The plan is to move April maintenance to February with local staff and keep wood deliveries flowing for restart.

The goals for 1998 include meeting WCB legislation and engaging with Underwriters to serve the lake's southside, with a decision expected by late February or early March.
