Heritage Society Ordered To Restore Building By July 1982

The Heritage Society must restore the building and place it on foundations by the end of July 1982 under Village Council terms. Signatures are needed to guarantee funds for moving restoring roofing and site clearance. CACRS seeks office space in the Airport Terminal Building to support a rapid growth survey funded by a $20 000 grant.

Province auctions 20 Crown land parcels near Hudson's Hope

Lands minister Jim Chabot announced the public sale of twenty Crown land parcels in the Farrell Creek agricultural development near Hudson's Hope. Bidders must be Canadian citizens over 19 and residents of the province for two years. Auction set for December 15 at 10 a.m. in Hudson's Hope Community Hall. terms require a lease-develop purchase with 29 percent arable development. Information from Fort St. John ministry office.

Private Forest Lands Dominate BC Harvest Debate

A provincial forest service report warns private lands of 1.6 million hectares are being logged at four to five times sustainable levels. Though only 4 percent of productive forest land, these private holdings threaten timber supply, with old growth depletion and premature harvests risking 20 years of limited value.

Heritage group seeks museum site and funding in Chetwynd

Ken Browns of the Little Prairie Heritage Society spoke to Council about obtaining a museum building and land at Westgate Road. Authorities approved 5 acres for a museum, with costs to be underwritten by signatures by December 31 1981 and work to begin by July 1982.

Teslyk residence wins light-up contest in Chetwynd

The Andy Teslyk residence took first place and 100 in the Light-up Contest. Al Hardie placed second with 75, Shirley Morrison third with 50, and Ed Williams fourth with 25. CJDC organized the event, sponsored by ten Chetwynd merchants and local businesses. Judges were Susan Kelm, Fred Knowles and Lorne Shurer.

Canada moves to metric in grocery weighs in 1990s shift

Canada begins a staged switch to metric on January 1 with grams and kilograms replacing pounds and ounces for produce meat and checkout scales in 20 regions from St John’s to Kamloops. Toronto retailers follow in March as the country plans two years of conversion overseen by the Retail Council of Canada.
