Cantor profits from high-return projects in timber sector
Cantor reports a 106 million profit from focusing on high-return projects to boost mill efficiency. Spokesman Dave Lefebvre says they will review potential projects in the coming months and decide on including shuttered mills, while Frank Everitt of United Steelworkers hopes Rustad Bros. mill in Prince George is aided. Cantor has reopened several closed mills, including in Quesnel Mackenzie and Chetwynd, with Rustad shut nearly 18 months ago. Prince George’s Rustad closure affected 205 workers, and Canfor also closed its nearby Clear Lake mill. A Conference Board of Canada forecast notes China demand benefits the wood products sector, though the U.S. market remains worrisome.
