Peace region plans to fund policing locally amid funding shift
The Peace River Regional District is crafting a Made in the Peace policing plan as provincial changes to the funding formula loom. Chetwynd may face policing costs of 600000 to 800000 yearly by 2002, with districts like Dawson Creek and Fort St John already contributing most of their budgets. Regional officials aim to level costs across the district, ensure local control, and present proposals to mayors and councils as the Liberal plan faces finalization. Coleman plans a workshop in early January as legislation on the changes nears.
