RCMP Code Blue boot camp grows at Chetwynd school

A new physical education boot camp for youth, Code Blue, is piloted at Chetwynd Secondary School as the first program of its kind outside the lower mainland. Surrey RCMP Constable Troy Derrick of the Gitxsan Nation created the intense workout for youth and assisted in setup. RCMP Constable Sue Harvey will teach locally.

Chetwynd mill aims to restart by March 31

The Chetwynd Mechanical Pulp mill plans a March 31 restart, while the 109 laid off workers doubt the date is realistic. Unifor national rep Jon Hawkins told Alaska Highway News he fears extended downtime as the bleached chemi thermo mechanical pulp market struggles. The mill has extended a December shutdown, with 115 staff remaining to handle temporary layoffs and demands for extended health benefits.

Pine River Gas Plant Reopens After Amine Release

The Pine River Gas Plant in Alaska reopened after an amine release on November 27 caused a shutdown. The release followed a hydrogen sulfide incident the day before, on November 26. NEB and Spectra Energy say initial reports suggest safety to resume operations, though the causes remain under investigation.
