Food price rise forecast for 2015 across sectors
A University of Guelph Food Institute report says Canada faces higher costs in 2015 for meat 3 to 5 percent, fish 3 to 5 percent, dairy 1 to 1 percent, grains 0 to 2 percent, fruit 1 to 3 percent, vegetables 3 to 5 percent and restaurant foods 1 to 3 percent. It cites droughts in California, a weaker loonie, and global demand as drivers, with notable beef pork price hikes last year and shifting sourcing strategies by stores and processors.
