Minister Hawes apologizes to Moberly Chief in Chetwynd
Minister Randy Hawes offered a public apology to West Moberly First Nations Chief Roland Willson in Chetwynd after criticizing the Harvard study Bearing the Burden on mining and First Nations. The study says BC mining laws favor industry and deny indigenous self determination. Hawes dismissed the report as hogwash, then acknowledged his word choice about traditional lifestyles may have been poor. Willson rejects Hawes’s stance and says he will not be in the same room with him.
