Romanow health reform proposal costs Canadians billion plan
Roy Romanow’s 356 page Royal Commission on Healthcare proposes a $15 billion three year plan to overhaul health care. It would assign $6.5 billion to funding 25 percent of insured services, $1.5 billion for rural access, $2.5 billion for primary care, $2 billion for a national home care program, and $1 billion to subsidize expensive drugs. Critics led by Stephen Harper of the Canadian Alliance call the plan pie in the sky and unachievable, arguing federal scope is limited.

Romanow health reform plan sparks federal provincial clash
Prime Minister Chrétien questions Romanow's funding asks while supporting strings on federal dollars to provinces. Alberta's Klein calls Romanow's plan an intrusion. The National Post and other pundits deride it as ideological rigidity amid Canada's political divide.
