Limited local benefits from pipeline
Chetwynd Councillor Bob Nicholson warned the Alliance Pipeline project offers only short term local gains. He expected Fort St. John to gain jobs and contractors while noting no gas from Chetwynd wells would flow south. The plan could also lower local value if propane is stripped elsewhere. Norman Gish said initial work would start this winter with pipe laying next May and service by late 2000, predicting $50 million yearly royalties for B.C. and about $200 million annual exploration and development locally.
