A helicopter pilot illegally landed in the front yard of the Traveller's Inn Motel as seven top Department of Transport officials driving by conducted talks with Dawson Creek city council on airport improvements. The pilot was apprehended.
The Chetwynd recreation commission hosts a District Mini Conference in Chetwynd on Saturday December 7 with Gary McLenaghan and Ivan Knowles speaking on recreational programming. Regional District village councils and Recreation Commission of Northern BC discuss plan feasibility. Sessions run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Windrem School Gym with luncheon at Elks Hall. reservations to Grace McNabb at 788-2554.
The Office of the Rentalsman filed two counts against Clara Boulger of 1717 Nelson Street for failing to give proper notice of termination and for entering the tenant’s premises without consent. Tenant Mark Anderson of 1713 Nelson Street filed the charges, marking the rentalsman’s first case since the office opened October 1.
Beattie Arnold of Dawson Creek B C paid 100 for a loaded firearm in a vehicle on November 10 1974. Steem Leslie Douglas of Leduc Alberta paid 50 for a loaded firearm in a vehicle and 35 for no licence on November 13 1974. He also pled guilty on November 22 1974 to being a minor in possession of liquor and was fined 50. Offences occurred November 12 1974 near Chetwynd B C. Testawich Stanley Lawrence of Dawson Creek was charged December 15 1973 at Peace River Alberta with breath over .08, fined 300 and banned from highway driving 30 days. Marcus Robert and Chester Lee Mac Pherson of Chetwynd were apprehended.
BC Hydro manager Pat Flack says tenders for the Lone Prairie Hydro line have been received. The contract award is expected by December 12, with construction anticipated to begin.
Christmas is nearly here as Chetwynd bursts with festivity. Santa and reindeer top the town hall while store windows glow and mail volume rises at the post office. The Chetwynd Cooperative Association's plans were finalized at an October meeting led by Chairman Charles Lesser. Membership is one share per member at $100, with public shares to follow after financial arrangements are settled. Work starts on the first major contract for B C Hydros Site One development on the Peace River with Dillingham Corporation Canada Ltd of North Vancouver the successful bidder from five. The $8.9 million package covers river diversion cofferdam site clearing and early foundation work with 300 workers anticipated in 1975. Construction resumes April first and runs through spring summer and fall under an earlier award to Antler Construction Co Ltd.
The First Chetwynd Service Club Lions held a well attended dinner at the Chetwynd Elks Hall on Saturday evening November 30. The Ladies of the Royal Purple prepared a meal for Lions members their wives and guests. Members of the Elks Lodge received recognition including Jim Best Elks Club President Dick Burnham Exalted Ruler and Gill Arseneau District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the Peace River area.
A provincial redistribution bill would divide the Prince George Peace River riding into Fort Nelson Fort St. John Dawson Creek Chetwynd Mackenzie and eastern Prince George while the western part joins a new riding. If passed the change would take effect in the next federal election around 1978 with BC gaining seats to 27 and rising to 32 by 1983. Benefiting MPs may switch to the eastern district where base strength lies.
