BC Rail unions' demands could exceed 45 million
BC Rail faces a 23.5 percent one year wage demand plus other union proposals that would lift costs to more than 45 million, about 60 percent of its 75 million annual wage bill. Human Resources VP and chief negotiator Brian Foley notes additional costly impacts if a CTU proposal to ban contracting out is accepted. The railway is under strike notice from seven unions and plans a shutdown at 0001 hours on Tuesday September 4. Mediation starts August 27 under John Thorne.
