Chetwynd area building boom with multiple permits issued

July saw 8 permits valued at 43 650 and year to date 33 permits totaling 602 535. New residential projects include 3 July and 21 year to date, along with 4 alterations in July and 6 to date. Commercial work includes 1 July and 6 year to date. Major projects: Cantor Chetwynd Division adds 125 000 new office wing, Culture Centre in Metis Subdivision at about 90 000, preschool classroom by September, and west wing renovation at Chetwynd Motor Hotel awaiting equipment. Elken Developments builds ten Nelson homes between 50th Ave and 43rd St, with basements. Crown subdivision offers 42 lease lots with August 22 draw. lots in other subdivisions readied for topping and renovations to B C R homes. Two new businesses debut in September: Chetwynd Menswear and a Confectionery store. Rentals remain scarce as property heats up.

Lessons run 8 a.m. to 6 30 p.m. with figure free style and dance practice.

Highway infractions charged in Alberta and British Columbia

James Bowman of Edmonton Alberta faced charges on July 27 1974 for failing to stop at a stop sign and paid a 25 dollar voluntary penalty. He was charged again on August 6 1974 with speeding and paid 35 dollars. Lloyd Fowler of Chetwynd BC was charged August 13 1974 with operating a motor vehicle on purple gas and paid 50 dollars. Tourist Committee Meeting At Silver Sands Lodge

The Tourist Committee and Associated Chamber plan a two day meeting at Silver Sands Lodge on Hart Highway about 48 miles from Chetwynd. Delegates should arrive by 4:00 p.m. Saturday August 24 1974 for an overnight session including a hike to Hart Lake. Bring fishing tackle sleeping bags and a camera. Call 788 2696 to participate.
