British Columbia exports slide in early 1982 quarter
British Columbia exports fell 8.1 percent in the first quarter of 1982 from a year earlier, totaling 2,156 million dollars. Weak demand for lumber, especially in the US, dragged results while coal and aluminum rose, and higher zinc and newsprint prices helped. The report notes the US remains BC’s main market and a US economic recovery is needed for a sharp export rebound.
